Inoreader Alternative: SereneReader Compared

Inoreader Pro adds rules, social feeds and page monitoring. SereneReader leaves those out, costs less for Pro and Team, and has Mac and Apple Watch apps.

How they differ

Inoreader treats RSS as one input among many, with automation, extra sources and an AI feature called Intelligence on its Pro plan. SereneReader reads RSS and Atom feeds and puts its effort into the reading itself: a focus mode (press f) that hides the sidebar and article list, seven color themes, and native Apple apps.

The free plans are close. Each allows 150 feeds and includes search, and neither shows ads. Most of the differences are in the paid plans and the apps.

Where Inoreader does more

  • Rules and filters. Pro includes up to 30 rules and 50 filters that act on keywords and conditions, such as tagging or hiding matching articles. SereneReader has neither.
  • Sources beyond RSS. Pro can follow Facebook, Bluesky, Telegram and VK accounts (30 of each), watch up to 20 web pages for changes, and receive up to 20 newsletters.
  • A bigger Pro limit. Inoreader Pro allows 2,500 feeds to SereneReader Pro's 250. On SereneReader, only Team removes the limit.
  • Android and Chrome. Inoreader has an Android app and a Chrome extension for subscribing from the page you're on. SereneReader offers neither.
  • Teams larger than five. Inoreader's Team plans go up to 10 members and beyond. SereneReader Team stops at five people.

Where SereneReader comes out ahead

  • A lower Pro price. SereneReader Pro is $5 a month on the web, or $6.99 through the App Store. Inoreader Pro is $7.50 a month paid annually or $9.99 month to month, and it includes the extra tools listed above.
  • Cheaper for a small team. SereneReader Team is $25 a month in total for up to five people sharing feeds and folders. Inoreader charges $44.99 a month for three members and $74.99 for five.
  • Mac and Apple Watch apps. On a Mac, Inoreader runs in the browser, and it has no Watch app. SereneReader's Mac app is native and shares one account with the iPhone, iPad and web versions. Its Watch app keeps a snapshot of your feeds and up to 50 unread headlines, and loads an article when you open it. See the apps.

Moving from Inoreader

Export your subscriptions as OPML from Inoreader's preferences (look for Import/Export). Then sign up for SereneReader's free plan, which doesn't need a credit card, and import the file. Feeds and folders transfer, with any nesting flattened to one level. Social feeds, web-page monitors, newsletters and rules have no SereneReader equivalent and stay behind. A free account imports up to 150 feeds, the same as Inoreader's free limit.

Pricing and features as of October 2026. Check each product's website for current details.
